Minutes of inaugural meeting
Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at Netherlee Primary School


Present: Ailsa Crum; Brenda Williams; Cress Maher; Margaret Kyle; Sara Lang; Steve Galloway; Sue McMillan; Val Graham; Vivienne Wilson; Kirsty McNeill, Sandra Mitchell, Tim Adams, Lesley McKenna, Lisa Bullen, Margaret MacDiarmid, Karen Hussain, Senga Queen & Lesley Farm.

1. Apologies: John Summers, Aida Santory Goslan


2. Minutes of previous meeting held Aug 21 were approved.

 
3. Matters arising from minutes of Aug 21
i) Advert for clerk held over because additional criteria re payment discovered.
ii) Using school website presents time, data protection and log-in challenges. Best all round if Netherlee PC has its own space. School website will carry link to new external “micro” site once created but still feature some announcements. Paragraph about whizzy new site to be passed to Bryan McLachlan (definitive spelling) for website inclusion once in situ.

 Action: SMcM to investigate new site iii) Approved Constitution can now be posted on school website.


Action: AC to pass to BW
iv) Pupil Council logo competition advanced at top speed by KMcN to judging stage. PTA to supply prizes with VW offering runners up goody bags from her work. (For clarification VW = Vivienne not Volkswagen Ltd). Winner selected and to be passed to VG for designer to create jpeg & “add Netherlee”.
Action: CM to arrange prize voucher. Logo to be passed to VG


4. Ailsa Crum was elected chair of the newly formed PC, nominated by Margaret Kyle and seconded by Vivienne Wilson
Steve Galloway was elected vice chair nominated by Karen Hussain and seconded by Cress Maher. Steve accepted on the understanding that he is away frequently on business but would do his best to attend.


5. Val Graham agreed to be minutes clerk and Sue MacMillan in her absence was suggested webmaster.

 
Action: AC, VG & SMcM to report how best roles might work
6. The following attendees all self nominated :Lesley McKenna, Lisa Bullen, Tim Adams, Margaret MacDiarmid & Karen Hussain. An expression of intent to self nominate was received from Aida Santory Goslan.

Action : VG to contact ASG


7. Correspondence received since previous meeting
a) Save the Children’s invitation to raise funds declined as not relevant
b) ER’s transport strategy arrived near to deadline for responses and, given this, there was insufficient time for all members to respond. Ailsa submitted comments as an individual but not on behalf of the PC.


8. AC & SL reported back on their attendance at the ER Parent Councils’
Forum.

Key items were awareness of Child Protection issues and Cyber Safety (with particular relevance to parents). Both these issues to be advanced at next meeting possibly to event stage.
Sandra as the school’s child protection specialist is aware of a training power point on the intranet and is very keen expand on the processes of how schools deal with child protection concerns.
Actions SM to consider next stage
ER’s ICT specialist Anne McLean should be approached to talk to parents at the school.

9.
Members were invited to attend ER training courses on a variety of topics. Three members expressed interest in attending the event on recruitment and selection procedures (1.5 hours) on either Oct 30 or Nov 8, venue tbc. Members are invited to identify any further training needs in their capacity as PC members and raise these at future meetings for passing on to East Renfrewshire Council.

Action : AC agreed to check the protocol for members requesting places at training events.
Actions: KH,VG & TA to attend Oct 30, AC to check ERC contact.


10. Steve agreed to draw upon the responses of the “brain storm” and present some thoughts at the next meeting.

 Action: SG to consider
