Under the Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006, Parent Councils replaced School Boards.
 
The main roles of a Parent's Council are to:
  • Support the work of the school and school management to improve the quality of education which the school provides, and develop to their fullest potential the personality,talents and mental and physical abilities of the pupils attending the school

 

  • Develop and engage in activities which support the education and welfare of pupils

 

  • Gather and represent parent's views to the head teacher, education authority and HMIE

 

  • Promote contact between the school, the Parent forum,pupils, pre-school groups and the wider community

 

  • Report back to the parent forum

 

  • Involvement in appointment of senior staff
 

Parent Council Membership 
Currently there are 21 members of the Netherlee Primary school Parent Council made up of 18 parent members and 3 staff.

Netherlee Primary School PTA
The PTA is a seperate but closely linked organisation to the Parent Council. The Netherlee Primary PTA has principally a fund raising role for the school.
