4. Classes for 2009-10

Sandra explained that there would be a likely reduction in staff for the 2009/10 session and that it was unlikely that they would receive additional NQT's.

This is likely to impact on the number and size of classes for the new session.

Sandra explained that the outcome of a legal case in East Lothian had set a precedent for placing requests to be accepted where classes are not at full capacity.Given that there is no additional resource for placing requests this was likely to create a perverse incentive not to reduce class sizes.

Sandra also explained that based on the anticipated needs of pupils in school next session, she had made a request for an additional 116 PSA hours. This request has been refused and it is also likely that the current level of 330 hours will be reduced by 10 hours.

In discussion, the PC raised a number of concerns about the potential impact this could have on all pupils and staff but particularly on those children with additional support needs.

It was agreed that Ailsa would write to the Director for Education setting out the concerns of the Parent Council.
