Netherlee Primary School 75th Anniversary 2008
Events to commemorate this special occasion have included :
"1933 day" in February 2008
during which teachers dressed up in the clothing of the era, the children had 1933 style lessons, and a mince and tatties lunch was served which was very well received.There were also physical activites and games held in the playground, which were typical of the time period.
Open Day and Exhibition May 21st 2008
An open day and exhibition was held on 21st May 2008.During the open day, parents of current pupils could go into the classrooms while lessons were taking place to observe how lessons are conducted today.
During the evening exhibition, the whole school was open so that the public and ex-pupils could see, or re-visit all the classrooms. In addition the atrium was filled with an exhibition which included displays from current pupils of their current work and boards showing the key themes and issues of each decade since the school opened. There was also the opportunity for ex-pupils to contribute their memories of the school to a pod-cast being made by current pupils.
The Parent Council, ably assisted by members of the PTA, collected and displayed a large number of artifacts, photos and memories from ex-pupils.We also served the refreshments of wine and juice,which were greatly appreciated!
The evening was a great success, with a large number of people attending throughout the evening.
School Photo June 2008
After a couple of cancelled attempts due to wet weather, a photo of the entire school, both pupils and staff, was taken on June 3rd. It is displayed in the school atrium for viewing and all parents have been given the opportunity to purchase a copy.
75th Polo shirts and Bears
Netherlee Primary School Traders (NPS Traders) are selling 75th anniversary bears and the PTA have been selling 75th anniversary poloshirts. It is expected that the poloshirts will be on sale again in September.
The Parent Council will continue to support and help the school with any further initiatives relating to the 75th anniversary.
